The program consists of 4 weekly sessions, each an hour long. Sessions are supervised by trained clinical psychologists and follow a preset structure. Each session, patients learn important skills and habits to help them overcome insomnia. Patients also receive documents and resources to guide them along their journey.
Why Group Therapy?
Both individual and group therapy approaches are effective for cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I). Each approach has its place in the treatment plan. However, therapy in a group setting provides significant benefits.
- Emotional support: Hearing other patients with similar problems helps patients realize that they are not alone and provides a sense of relief
- Feedback: Members of the group provide feedback and perspective on the various issues each member is facing
- Motivation: Sharing successes and achievements motivates every member of the group and propels them forward
- Social skills: Being in a group setting and following group rules promote social skills and makes the therapy sessions more rewarding from a social point of view
