Sleep Studies: Laboratory Based
The Cairo Sleep Center boasts a state-of-the-art sleep laboratory equipped with the latest technologies. In the Sleep Lab, we conduct various types of sleep studies needed to diagnose the different causes of sleep disorders.
A polysomnography (PSG), also known as sleep study, is used to diagnose many sleep disorders. The PSG recording monitors and measures many parameters related to brain activity, breathing and movement during the different stags of sleep. Although the PSG study requires that the patient sleep overnight in the sleep lab, the PSG sensors are designed to assist in the diagnostic process with minimal disruption to the patient. The PSG study is monitored at all times by the sleep technologist, although a physician is present in the lab as well. A sleep lab-based PSG study offers the most detailed information about a patient’s sleep patterns and is often the best method of investigation to diagnose many sleep disorders.
The Mean Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) is used to diagnose excessive daytime sleepiness.
The Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Titration Test is used to determine the parameters that best suit each patient’s needs in order to assure optimum sleep apnea treatment in cases where the patient is prescribed the use of a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) device as well as a customized mask fit that suits the patient’s needs.
Sleep Aid Devices
CairoSleep technicians are experienced in the measuring and fitting of the appropriate Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) devices and masks that would be prescribed for the treatment of sleep apnea. Theses sleep devices are used by patients in their own home while they sleep.
